About us
The UNESCO-IHP/Project WET Water and Education for the Americas and the Caribbean is a joint programme of the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) for Latin America and the Caribbean and Project WET.
It started in 2006, in the framework of an agreement between both institutions in order to contribute with the countries of the region in the formulation and implementation of education programmes, refered to responsible water management, addressed to formal and non formal educators in Latin America and the Caribbean.
How do we work?
The programme is implemented through workshops for educators based on an educational guide. The guide is the outcome of the adaptation work performed by an interdisciplinary team, which considered several publications developed by Project WET and by the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The guide facilitates the educational work by generating awareness, and promoting the valuation, understanding, and responsibility in the use of water. It includes practical, amusing and creative didactic proposals around three axes: Re-cognizing Water; Water, Life and Health, and Water Management. This capacity-building is expected to be transferred by educators to children in their educative environment.
In order to expand the Programme in the region, the guide is available in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.
