The UNESCO-IHP “Water and Education” Regional Workshops are part of a process conceived to strengthen education for sustainable water management. These conferences also  emphasize  the importance  of education at different levels for enhanced awareness on the key role that water has in human life.

ITAIPU BINACIONAL and the UNESCO International Hydrological Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean (IHP-LAC) have joined efforts to organize this event, which mobilize educators, academicians, technicians, professionals, media, decision-makers, and managers to share and exchange their experiences in the implementation of water-related educational programmes. The response was excellent, which resulted in the registration of over 160 persons. 

The workshop has been an opportunity to create synergies, consolidate, promote and integrate the educational actions that are being carried out in the region. The results of the conference represent an important contribution to the V World Water Forum (Istanbul, Turkey, March, 2009), and to the consolidation of the region’s water education programs.
