World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (Bonn, Germany, March 31- April 2, 2009)

 

The UNESCO-IHP/Project WET Water and Education for the Americas and the Caribbean participated in the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) through the National Water Commission (CONAGUA), host institution for Mexico. The event was organized by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, in cooperation with the UNESCO German Commission.

700 participants from 5 continents discussed about regional, national and cultural differences and how to improve ESD. Through 22 panels different matters were approached: gender, inclusion, culture, technology, traditional knowledge, human rights, objectives of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. At the end of the Conference a declaration that summarizes the discussions and proposals was adopted.
