A yearlong, a goal widely pursued by the International Hydrological Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean (IHP-LAC) was the publication of a scientific magazine focusing on water resources.

In March 2009, with great expectations, AQUA-LAC cames to life. Its goal consists of presenting, through a holistic approach, the scientific aspects directly connected with water. With this initiative, the magazine attempts to fill a niche that integrates, in a multi-disciplinary form, the results from scientific and socio-economic research, the legal aspects, the use of innovative technologies, and integrated and appropriate management of the available resources – all of which without disregarding the right transfer of the scientific advances to the society, and the administrative, managing and planning instances.

However, our main ambition is that AQUA-LAC constitutes an international framework of reference in its field through its tested quality and scientific relevance, not limited to water scientists and professionals of Latin America and the Caribbean. Such recognition will certainly only be possible to the extent the journal gathers the contributions and inputs from the technicians and researchers –mainly from the region—and relevant contributions from other areas of influence.
