· Enlarging the existing knowledge on flow regimes through the development of high quality models and data bases, with particular attention to extreme hydrologic phenomena (droughts and floods).
· Deepening the scientific knowledge of the hydrological processes and their spatial/temporal variability through several basins (in cooperation with the HELP project)
· Contributing to enhanced policy-developing and decision making capacities through enlarged basic knowledge and capacities of decision-makers and engineers involved in water management in urban areas, in different geographic environments of the Region, emphasizing in developing countries (in cooperation with IHP regional centers, projects and working groups)
· Strengthening research efforts and network capacity at regional and international scales based on water-related products, particularly supply, as a component of poverty-reduction efforts.
· Contributing to the improvement of the basic knowledge to develop an ecological vision associated to natural resources exploitation (in cooperation with the Ecohydology project)
· Increasing scientific capacity to study and monitor mountain-area resources under global change scenarios.
· Detecting trends due to climate variability and change.
· Detect the human impact on the hydrological regime.
