Ecuador 12-15 December 2006

In the framework of the International Project Catamayo – Chira, a Binacional Training of Trainers in Water Resources Integrated Management in International Basins with Gender Perspective has been carried out in Vilcabamba (Loja, Ecuador) in the days 12-15 of December 2006.

The activity has been carried out with the collaboration of the Water and Gender Alliance (GWA) and of the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) of UNESCO, in the framework of PCCP project for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Training purpose was to make a contribution to the sensitization of the staff from the institutions involved in the project and in the Catamayo – Chira basin, about the relationship and importance of both the gender equity and the integrated water resources management.

For this reason, the activity has represented part of the actions that GWA is carrying out concerning Gender Equity, one of the 7 cross-cutting perspectives of the project. Further, the activity has been of interest for PCCP, in the frameworks of conflict prevention and water resources management.

In this framework, UNESCO supported the participation of Mr. Paúl Herrera and Mr. David Matamoros, professionals of the Escuela Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) of Guayaquil (Ecuador). The ESPOL collaborates with UNESCO in the framework of PCCP.

The contents discussed during the training, and related to PCCP topics, have been focused on Management of Hydrographic Basins, Human Rights, Public Policies and Conflict Management.
